Aug. 31, 2023 – Michigan Materials and Aggregates Co. (Stoneco of Michigan) is taking that state’s Sharon Township to court to appeal officials’ denial of a zoning permit for a new project, as well as alleging township ordinances break state law in a separate lawsuit, according to Michigan Live. The township rules that governed the yearslong review of Stoneco’s application for a new mine are “designed to prevent gravel mining” and conflict with Michigan law, Stoneco alleges in a complaint filed in Washtenaw County Circuit Court on Aug. 25, one day after the appeal of the township decision, filed on Aug. 24.
